사도행전 6장 : 8-15

8 스데반이 은혜와 권능이 충만하여 큰 기사와 표적을 민간에 행하니

9 이른 바 자유민들 즉 구레네인, 알렉산드리아인, 길리기아와 아시아에서 온 사람들의 회당에서 어떤 자들이 일어나 스데반과 더불어 논쟁할새

10 스데반이 지혜와 성령으로 말함을 그들이 능히 당하지 못하여

11 사람들을 매수하여 말하게 하되 이 사람이 모세와 하나님을 모독하는 말을 하는 것을 우리가 들었노라 하게 하고

12 백성과 장로와 서기관들을 충동시켜 와서 잡아가지고 공회에 이르러

13 거짓 증인들을 세우니 이르되 이 사람이 이 거룩한 곳과 율법을 거슬러 말하기를 마지 아니하는도다

14 그의 말에 이 나사렛 예수가 이 곳을 헐고 또 모세가 우리에게 전하여 준 규례를 고치겠다 함을 우리가 들었노라 하거늘

15 공회 중에 앉은 사람들이 다 스데반을 주목하여 보니 그 얼굴이 천사의 얼굴과 같더라

 

Acts of the Apostles 6: 8-15

8 Now Stephen, a man full of God's grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people.

9 Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)-Jews of Cyrene and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia and Asia. These men began to argue with Stephen,

10 but they could not stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit by whom he spoke.

11 Then they secretly persuaded some men to say, 'We have heard Stephen speak words of blasphemy against Moses and against God.'

12 So they stirred up the people and the elders and the teachers of the law. They seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin.

13 They produced false witnesses, who testified, 'This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law.

14 For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs Moses handed down to us.'

15 All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

사도행전 6장 :8-15

8 스데반이 은혜와 권능이 충만하여 큰 기사와 표적을 민간에 행하니

8 Now Stephen, a man full of God's grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people.

  스데반에 대해서 3절에서 ‘성령과 지혜가 충만한 자’, 5절에서 ‘믿음과 성령이 충만한 자’ 라고 표현하고 있습니다. 8절은 ‘은혜와 권능이 충만하다고 묘사합니다. 지혜, 믿음, 은혜, 권능은 모두 성령충만시 나타나는 은사입니다. 스데반이 행한 큰 기사와 표적은 예수님께서 행하셨던, 사도들이 행했던 것과 같은 것으로 짐작됩니다.

  자유민들은, 로마의 유대정벌이후, 로마 노예로 팔려갔었던 유대인이  자유를 얻었던 자들의 후손들을 말합니다. 

스데반이 아직 복음을 받아들이지 않은 헬라파 유대인들에게 복음을 전파했다는 말입니다. 

 

10 스데반이 지혜와 성령으로 말함을 그들이 능히 당하지 못하여

10 but they could not stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit by whom he spoke.

  여러명의 대적자들이 스데반 하나를 당해 내지 못했습니다. 이유는 스데반이 지혜와 성령이 충만했기 때문입니다. 

 

11 사람들을 매수하여 말하게 하되 이 사람이 모세와 하나님을 모독하는 말을 하는 것을 우리가 들었노라 하게 하고

11 Then they secretly persuaded some men to say, 'We have heard Stephen speak words of blasphemy against Moses and against God.'

  그들은 스데반이 모세와 하나님을 모욕했다는 거짓말로 스데반을 고소하는데 이것은 예수님을 고소한 내용과 비슷합니다. 그들이 그토록 흥분한 이유는 스데반이 형식적인 성전 예배와 제사장들의 부패상을 언급하고 율법주의 폐단을 지적했기 양심에 찔렸을 가능성이 높습니다. 자신들의 죄를 회개하지 않고 오히려 무고한 자를 사형에 처하려고 법정에서 거짓 증거자를 세우는 악한 행위를 하니, 그들은 나중에 징벌을 받게 됩니다. 

 

12 백성과 장로와 서기관들을 충동시켜 와서 잡아가지고 공회에 이르러

12 So they stirred up the people and the elders and the teachers of the law. They seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin.

스데반의 대적자들은 자신의 힘만으로 스데반을 당할 수 없자, 유대교의 공권력을 동원하려 합니다. 장로와 서기관은 공의회 의원들이고, 이들은 이미 산헤드린에서 스데반을 재판 하려고 계획하고 기다렸습니다.

 

13 거짓 증인들을 세우니 이르되 이 사람이 이 거룩한 곳과 율법을 거슬러 말하기를 마지 아니하는도다

13 They produced false witnesses, who testified, 'This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law.

  

14 그의 말에 이 나사렛 예수가 이 곳을 헐고 또 모세가 우리에게 전하여 준 규례를 고치겠다 함을 우리가 들었노라 하거늘

14 For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs Moses handed down to us.'

유대교 신자나 예루살렘 거주민들은 성전에 대한 문제에 매우 민감합니다. 그들은 성전 덕분에 살아가기 때문입니다. 예루살렘 성전을 유지하고, 예배를 위해 세계 각처의 유대인들이 막대한 헌금을 바치고 있었습니다. 매 절기마다 순례자들이 내는 많은 헌금이 다 예루살렘 안에서 소비되었기에 도시 사람들에게는 가장 중요한 수입원이었습니다.  그들은 자신들의 생활권이 침해되는 것으로 생각했습니다. 스데반이 성전을 공격한다고 하니 모두 한 마음으로 공회를 소집한 것입니다.

 

15 공회 중에 앉은 사람들이 다 스데반을 주목하여 보니 그 얼굴이 천사의 얼굴과 같더라
